Why Choose Reusable Bamboo Straws?

With all these new and awesome ways to drink sustainably, a lot of you have asked – why should we choose bamboo straws over other options like our wood, paper and metal counterparts? Well, we’re here to educate you on why bamboo is the best option for all your sustainability needs!

Bamboo is actually the earth’s most sustainable plant! It only takes about 3 years to grow to maturity, and grows in abundance in the warm and tropical climates of Asia – where we get ethically sourced bamboo for our straws and cutlery. It’s a strong material that does not require treatment like paper and wood, and it is completely biodegradable, unlike metal that would need to be carefully recycled in order to not end up in landfills or at the bottom of the ocean. Our bamboo products and plastic free packaging will not contribute to the damage that single-use plastics have caused to oceans, rivers, and wildlife habitats around the world!

Bamboo straws are reusable, and ours come with a high-quality brush to clean them with. They can be used time and time again, and can be easily carried with you to cut out using plastic straws when at restaurants as well! If you’ve ever used paper straws, they are pretty much a one time deal, and easily soak up the liquid they are used in before they need to be thrown away. Bamboo straws dry easily and can be used for over a year, then eventually can be composted and replaced. Metal straws take a lot of manufacturing energy to make and contribute more to the carbon impact left on the earth. Although they are known to last a lifetime, without proper disposal, those metal straws will eventually pollute the very same environmental areas we are trying to save, and they will last even longer than plastic straws.

Bamboo straws are completely natural, BPA free, and the bamboo is grown without any pesticides or chemicals, meaning less treatment is needed to make them food-safe. Many wood alternatives need to go through harsh bleaching and chemical processes to make sure the fibrous texture does not rot after being soaked in different liquids. Many wooden straws are also made with a chemical coating that makes it non-biodegradable even though they claim it is. When using bamboo straws, you can see when first opening them that they are naturally made, and minimally processed before reaching you. Our straws differ in thickness in order to minimize the waste that is created while making the straws, The insides are carefully filed and sanded before being packed in our 100% recyclable cardboard packaging.
